year 2001 has been declared but the united nations the year of volunteers. here in novosibirsk we dedicated april 23rd to 28th as volunteer week (see this for more info). any way on the day dedicated to children we picked several orphanages & hospitals, closed our office & divided into teams to visit & play with the kids in these different institutions. (we also had gotten sponsors for lots of sports equipment to give to the kids) well some pictures are below
i went to a boarding school for the hearing impaired.
first we played soccer (yeah like i even know how to play) it was our pas team against the deaf kids falling all over my self going for a touch down :)
by the end though i was a regular pele
but they beat us any way 4 -1
then we played basket ball & they still beat us only cuz we were wiped out from the soccer... as if.. here they are they can't even talk or hear & they were passing like so fast we were getting dizzy. they creamed us in bball too 11 - 14 (we played single points as it is easier to show the score on your fingers (since they were deaf)
then we taught them how to play american foot ball. not in russian, english or even offical sign lanuage but just with motions. they cought on real fast though it was pretty amazing & we & they had a good time.
