the best horse riding i have ever done was in the altai republic. you go to a village see a horse, give the guy 50 rubles ($1.50) & you can take off where ever you want & these horses are the most sure footed i have ever ridden. they will go up mountains, down steep slopes, thru rivers, over logs rock or whatever with no questions asked. it was absolutly great.
